Bartolomeo, 47 years old, died on 6th June 2006 because of a rare disease (Hemophilia) which has taken him away the gift of life but never the strength of smiling.
His relatives chose to give for charity all his belongings to build a school in Burkina Faso, ” That’s the best possible way to honor him” – says his family. “His death gave us an immense grief – says one of his relatives – but also a great message of love”.

Since his birth Bartolomeo already suffered from a blood disease which always caused him serious motor difficulties. But till the end he had the strength to take care of the weakest people with his generosity and altruism – thus coming the idea to build a school in Africa. “We have done what Bartolomeo showed with his life – told his family -”. The local community was waiting for it since years. The project of a school didn’t go through due to a lack of funds. Children of Youngou didn’t hold out much hope of fulfilling their dream. Things changed only thanks to the solidarity of Petrucci’s family.

Now the children of Youngou can study, as every child does. At “Bartolomeo Petrucci” lessons already started. His mother and his two sisters let us know how big was Bartolomeo’s heart. A still beating heart, despite his death. The new life he gave to the children of Burkina Faso honors him even after his departure.

Who knew him says that Bartolomeo had an iron will. The illness itself, which according to the doctors would have stricken him long time before he was 47 years, made him paradoxically stronger. Probably even the children of Youngou will realize it, step by step, after walking some kilometers to go to the school.

“Goodbye Bartolomeo (Leo for friends)! You will be in our hearts forever.”
The sad news has been announced on 6th June, even if Leo left us on 3rd June at first light.

Bartolomeo Petrucci’s mother and sisters from Castellammare di Stabia (NA) said on 20th June 2006: “Our grief is immense but it’s close to our heart to tell you that Bartolomeo left us a spiritual will where he asked us to let you know that “I’m not desperate, I’m fine, I just change life”.
We want to share it with all of you, so that his memory will stay alive and will be an encouragement for all his friends.

Goodbye Leo, we will miss you, your help, your suggestions and your accurate advices in our hard times.

Thank you Leo, goodbye.
